BEN CARSON IS DANGEROUS

Ben Carson is dangerous!

Allow me to explain.

The Ben Carson campaign for the GOP nomination has been up and running for over 100 days.  He is running either first or a close second in every state or national poll.  He has participated in four nationally televised debates.

Yet in spite of all this time in the national spotlight we have no idea on where Dr. Carson stands on the important foreign policy issues of the day.  I submit that the reason for this lack of clarity is because Dr. Carson does not have a clue about foreign policy and is therefore incapable of articulating his position.

Take for example his performance during the last debate.

Carson was asked if he supported the president’s decision to put 50 Special Ops forces in Syria and leave 10,000 troops in Afghanistan.  His response…

“Well putting Special Ops in there is better than not having them there because they…that’s why they are called Special Ops, they are actually able to guide some of the other things that we are doing there.”

What?

Later in the debate Carson stated that China was involved in the Syrian conflict.  China is not.

Then yesterday Carson was asked to comment on a specific Middle East strategy.  After much hand wringing and eye rolling Carson closed his eyes and said:  “I’ll have to put you in touch with someone who knows the specifics.”

He doesn’t know.  Time and time again Doctor Carson has shown us that when it comes to foreign policy he has no clue.  Rather than educate himself on such matters he stands before the American people and “wings it.” I find such an arrogant display of hubris both off-putting and dangerous.

I understand that Carson’s supporters are drawn to his compelling personal story and calm demeanor. But there is more to being president than coming to the realization that going after your mother with a hammer is a bad idea.

Dr. Carson is a learned man.  He is after all a pediatric neurosurgeon.  Over time he may choose to expand his knowledge of foreign affairs. As of this writing there is no evidence that he has made that choice.

The most important responsibility conferred on our president is to keep the country safe.  Dr. Carson has yet to demonstrate that he has any idea as to what that responsibility may entail or any compunction to learn.  Until he changes that narrative Dr. Carson unfit to serve.

Handing Dr. Carson the mantle of leadership would be a very dangerous proposition.
