EVIL WALKS AMONG US

A good friend once said to me: “The problem I have with Democrats is the way they label anyone who disagrees with their point of view.  If I don’t happen to agree with their worldview then I am stupid or a Nazi.  I’m evil.”

To be fair, my progressive friends share in equal measure with their conservative counterparts in fanning the divisive, inflammatory rhetoric that permeates our politics.  Much of it is overblown.  All of it is self-destructive.

On the subject of “evil” living within our politics; recent days have brought to light circumstances that in my view justify such demonization.

Roy Moore is the Republican candidate for senator from the state of Alabama.  Roy Moore is a self-described Christian.  Roy Moore wears his Christianity on his sleeve.  According to Roy Moore,  many of his political views arise from his Christian beliefs.  Moore can often found on the stump citing the Bible as the source of his political pronouncements.

If we are to take Roy Moore at his word, Roy Moore is a racist, a bigot, a homophobe and a misogynist.  If we are to take Roy Moore at his word, these views are faith based.

If we are to take Roy Moore at his word; while in his early 30’s Roy Moore made it a habit of hanging out socially with young girls and dating woman barely half his age.  Moore says that he always had their parents consent.

According to what appear to be credible first hand accounts, Roy Moore sexually assaulted five underage young girls…one of whom was 14 years old.

That would make Roy Moore a pedophile.

Normally a candidate facing such allegations would resign from the race and focus on clearing his name.  Roy Moore has vowed to continue his run for the senate.

Perhaps even more surprising…Republican voters in Alabama have vowed to continue their support for Roy Moore…even if the allegations are true!  One voter told a local reporter:  “I’d rather vote for him than a Democrat…even if what they say he did is true.”

It took Republican leadership on the Hill several days to muster the courage to call for Roy Moore to resign his candidacy.  With few exceptions the rest of the Republican caucus has remained silent.

I just have to ask…WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?  The Republican senatorial candidate from Alabama has been accused by multiple victims of being a pedophile and the Republican caucus has NO COMMENT?  Worse…a few of these Republican elected “leaders” have vowed to continue their  support for a pedophile rather than allow a Democrat to fill the vacant seat!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  Is this who we are as a nation?  A country that would prioritize political advantage over the sexual abuse of a little girl?

The United State of America incarcerates more of its citizens per capita than any other country is the world.  Within the prison community their is a societal hierarchy.  The lowest rung on that hierarchical totem pole is reserved for those inmates serving sentences for crimes committed against children.  Even the worst that our society has to offer understand the heinous gravity of such an offense.

Roy Moore is a religious hypocrite.  Roy Moore is a pedophile.

I may not know how to accurately describe “evil” but I know it when I see it.

Roy Moore is evil.  Those that support his candidacy at the expense of little children carry the same label.
