After a brief detour down the path of normalcy the Whiner-in-Chief hopped aboard the crazy train and careened once again toward political self destruction.
Before a raucous crowd of supporters in Phoenix, AZ. Donald Trump proved once again that he is unfit to serve. The man whose job it is to unite the country spent over an hour doing everything in his power to divide it. As usual his remarks were packed full of lies, misrepresentations and false accusations designed to sew unrest and incite anger and violence.
Donald Trump’s ever expanding list of grievances is far to lengthy to fully document here. A few of the highlights…
…Trump heaped praise upon disgraced former sheriff Joe Arpaio, a racist individual convicted of criminal contempt of court, while denigrating John McCain, a war hero who devoted his entire adult life to serving his country….threatened to shut down the government if congress fails to provide funding for his border wall…ripped CEOs who fled his business advisory boards…blasted Mitch McConnell for failing to rid the senate of the filibuster…threatened to terminate NAFTA and lied about the number of protesters encamped outside his venue.
Trump saved his most vicious and divisive attacks for the media. Trump blamed the “dishonest media” for the racial tensions in the country; accusing them of falsely reporting his remarks in the aftermath of the violence in Charlottesville. Trump took the better part of thirty minutes of his hour long speech to air his grievances over the media’s handling of his response. With a flourish Trump reached into his breast pocket, pulled out the transcripts of his public comments and read them aloud to his audience…intentionally omitting the controversial off script asides that brought him worldwide criticism. An unhinged 30 minute diatribe of lies and false statements.
Notably missing from last night’s horror show…not a word about the 10 sailors lost in the collision of the American warship John McCain. Not a word about the murder of Heather Heyer whose life was taken by the white supremacists that Trump defends.
Perhaps the only thing more disconcerting than Trump’s reckless, offensive and divisive ramblings was the wild support emanating from the raucous crowd that cheered him on.
Sadly, we have seen this before. The circus orchestrated last night by Donald Trump is nothing new. Trump has a long history of big footing his serious efforts to govern with demonstrations of unhinged, reckless and destructive rhetoric such as the mess he put on display last night. His wild attacks against his own party make it clear that he really doesn’t care about getting anything done for the country. All he cares about is airing his grievances, denigrating those who cross his path and defending himself. With Trump it is always personal.
This event should have been about a president uniting a country torn apart by grief and violence. It was not. it was about a small man airing his grievances. It was all about Trump.
