We have long believed that Michael Cohen would be the central figure in bringing down the president and his business empire.  What was once conjecture has become reality.

In sworn testimony before the House Oversight Committee, the president’s personal attorney provided documentary evidence that the president is guilty of bank fraud, wire fraud, tax fraud, insurance fraud, violating campaign finance law and lying to the American people in order to influence the outcome of the 2016 general election.  Cohen also testified that the SDNY has an ongoing criminal investigation into other criminal activity involving the president on which he was prohibited from commenting.

The president’s furious Republican sycophants could not attack the substance of Cohen’s testimony so they tried to distract from the damning evidence by attacking the credibility of the messenger.

It is true that Michael Cohen is a convicted felon and proven liar.  It is certainly fair to question his motivation and credibility.  However Cohen’s sordid past has no bearing on ruinous documents that he presented to the committee.  The $35,000 check bearing the president’s signature cannot be dismissed no matter how villainous you may see Cohen as an individual.  Perhaps that is why in spite of the Republican’s aggressive attacks on Cohen’s character not one of them defended the president.

Michael Cohen’s testimony marks the beginning of the end for Donald Trump, his presidency and his business empire.  Forget Robert Mueller.  The SDNY will see to that.
