…another episode of the “Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”
LOST BATTLESHIPS – President Trump and the Supreme leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, engage in a heated war of words over the regime’s testing of inter-continental ballistic missiles. The president warns China: “If China does not use its influence to stop North Korea, we will!”
The White House announces that the Defense Department has cancelled its schedule joint naval exercises with the Australian military; redirecting the Carl Vinson aircraft carrier and its contingent of war ships to make way for the Korean peninsula.
The president states that the “armada, very forceful” is being sent into the region to show the North Koreans that we are very serious about our demands. Spicer, McManus and Defense Secretary Mattis issue public statements backing the president’s comments. The story, along with dramatic images of the massive battle group steaming toward North Korea, dominate the news.
Unfortunately the battle group was NOT steaming toward North Korea but rather in the opposite direction…towards Australia and its scheduled rendezvous with the Aussie military. The joint maneuvers were never cancelled. Once the exercise is completed the Carl Vinson will make its way toward the Korean peninsula. It is expected to arrive on site sometime next week.
The Trump administration’s tone suddenly shifted gears. Last week a steely eyed Vice President Pence glared across the DMZ and announced: “The time for strategic patience has ended.” Yesterday the VP visited Japan and proclaimed that the US sought a “peaceful diplomatic solution” to the North Korean conflict. The president followed suit calling for a peaceful end to the confrontation.
PUTIN MINI-ME: Donald Trump’s coziness with Vladimir Putin has been well documented. We just discovered that he has an affinity toward thuggish Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as well.
Erdogan is a thug and a murderer. A mirror image of Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Under his rein journalists and dissidents have been routinely murdered or jailed. Several months ago, after fighting off a coup attempt, Erdogan imprisoned or killed over 150,000 of his detractors.
Last Sunday the Turkish people voted on a referendum over a new constitution that will give Erdogan enormous power and eliminate many of the civil rights that we take for granted. The election was clearly fixed to result in Erdogan’s favor. The new laws will allow him to remain in power until 2029. The result is a serious blow to democracy in the region.
After learning the result, President Trump called Erdogan to congratulate the brutal tyrant his victory???
NOTHING TO SEE HERE – Ivanka Trump Kushner, the president’s daughter, has taken a formal position as a chief advisor within the Trump administration. By all accounts Ivanka is a very accomplished and successful business women. Nonetheless she possesses none of the governmental experience typically associated with chief presidential advisors seated in the highest positions of power.
It has been reported that Ivanka has recused herself from her business operations and placed her holdings in a trust.
Ivanka recently attended a lavish dinner honoring the Chinese President, Xi Jinping. Photographs of the evening show her chatting up the powerful Chinese leader.
That same day the Chinese government approved 3 trademark patents filed by Ivanka’s business interests.
Unbelievable!
