In a reckless display of unhinged behavior, Comrade Donald Trump carried Vladimir Putin’s geo-political water into the G-7 Summit and walked away at odds with our closest allies.
Trump arrived at the summit late and left early; a clear sign of his disinterest on the eve of his meeting with the North Koreans. While there he bullied allies over trade, criticized allies for using the US “like a piggy bank” and lobbied for Russia to be allowed back into the G-8. Upon leaving the summit he ordered aides to retract his endorsement of a joint communique issued at the end of the summit. The result, a contentious fracturing of relations with our closest allies.
How bad was it? Bristling over Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s remarks at a post-summit press conference during which he stated that Canadians “will not be pushed around” while labeling Trump’s trade tariffs “unfair”; Trump tweeted that Trudeau was “”dishonest and very weak” and then sent out his economic advisors to accuse Trudeau of stabbing the US in the back. “There is a special place in hell for a world leader who double crosses President Donald J. Trump.” Trump’s White House Director of Trade Policy, Peter Navarro told Fox News.
Vladimir Putin would love to get Russia back into the G-7 club. Failing that there is nothing that Putin would like better than a fractious relationship among G-7 allies. A distracted weakened western alliance allows Putin further his geo-political agenda. Thanks to Comrade Trump, Putin is getting his wish.
Think about this for a moment. Trump rips into allies who have fought side by side with us for decades while praising the Russian government that waged a cyber-war against us in the 2016 election.
Trump now heads to Singapore for his critical summit with North Korea.
One has to wonder…if you cannot manage a relationship with Canada how are you going to deal with a ruthless North Korean dictator with a nuclear arsenal?
