The president’s base of support is beginning to crack.
Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) is by all accounts a thoughtful, reasonable man who chooses his words carefully. He is one of the moderate conservatives that supported the president during the campaign. His support won him a place on the short list of people being considered by Trump for both Vice President and Secretary of State.
Responding publically to the president’s remarks in the aftermath of the Charlottesville, Bob Corker said this:
“The president has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability nor some of the competence that he needs to demonstrate in order to be successful…And we need him to be successful. Our nation needs him to be successful…(Trump) recently has not shown that he understands the character of this nation. He has not demonstrated that he understands what has made this nation great and what it is today. And he has got to demonstrate the characteristics of a president that understands that. Without the things that I just mentioned happening our nation is going to go through great peril.”
Bob Corker’s public questioning of the Trump’s stability and competence does not bode well for the future of this presidency.
