GOOD DAY FOR AMERICA

The President of the United States has been named an unindicted co-conspirator for his part in two federal crimes.

No, this is not another deep state conspiracy theory to de-legitimize the Trump presidency.  Nor is it the rantings of a crazed left wing blogger or the unhinged musings of a liberal cable news show.  This is not the Mueller investigation…nor collusion…nor fake news.  This is the sworn testimony taken UNDER OATH in criminal court of Donald Trump’s long time personal lawyer and fixer; Michael Cohen.

According to Michael Cohen; acting at the direction of Donald Trump, he (Cohen) violated campaign finance laws by making illegal payments to silence two individuals for the purpose of influencing the 2016 election campaign.  In laymen’s terms…in order to stop two extra-marital affairs from becoming public and ending his presidential run; Trump ordered Cohen  to pay hush money to a Playboy model and a porn star, thereby defrauding the American people.  The payments constitute a violation of campaign finance laws and are classified as felonies under federal law.

The naysayers and sycophants that worship at Trump’s feet will say that Cohen is lying and that there has been no legal finding of guilt on the part of the president.

The second half of that statement is true…so far. We are a nation of laws and the president has not been convicted of a crime…yet.

As to the first half of the statement…that Cohen is lying.  It is true that Cohen has a long ugly resume’ of thuggery and deceit.  He has pleaded guilty to 8 felony accounts.  It is right to question Cohen’s veracity without corroboration.  But Cohen is facing a life sentence in prison if he fails to tell federal prosecutors the truth…about everything.  Tell the truth and Cohen might be looking a 5 months in federal prison.  Lie and he is looking at 65 years.  Strong motivation to say the least.

Even more compelling…Cohen has audio tapes.  Lots of tapes.  We have heard the tape of Trump and Cohen discussing these payments.  There is no doubt that on this specific matter Cohen is telling us the truth.  The president conspired with Michael Cohen to influence the 2016 presidential election and defraud the American people.

If you ascribe to the notion that a sitting president cannot be indicted then you are left with only one course of action.  Impeachment!  Which brings us to the question at hand.  Where is the Republican led congress?  Where is Republican leadership?  Will congress fulfill its oversight responsibilities and conduct an honest investigation of the president’s actions or will it continue along its current path of irresponsible cowardice?

That the president has routinely lied to the American people, damaged long standing cornerstone democratic institutions and disgraced our country in the eyes of the world has been proven time and time again in the public domain.  We now have credible testimony from his attorney, corroborated by audio tape, that the president paid hush money to illegally influence the 2016 election.

Is that enough to stir a spineless Republican congress to perform its constitutional responsibilities?

The president has been named an unindicted co-conspirator in two federal crimes.  His campaign manager was found guilty in federal court on 8 felony charges.  His personal attorney plead guilty to 8 felony counts.  This was a good day for America.  The system worked.  Justice was served.

Now the onus is on congress.  Will Republicans do their part to find justice for the American people?
