LETTER TO TRUMP VOTERS

Dear Trump Voter,

Tonight the man that you voted into the most powerful position on the planet will advise the congress as to the state of our union.  He will claim that our republic is strong and offer a laundry list of accomplishments to make his point.  I don’t think I’d be going out on a limb to predict that he will take sole credit for same.

No doubt those of you who voted for Trump will be pleased to hear that things are going well.  You will take great pride and comfort to know that you were right to put your trust in Trump and favor him with your vote.  You most certainly deserve the credit for the state of our union, for it is you, the Trump voter, who put our country in this place in history.

It is you the Trump voter who allowed this country to become horribly divided.  It is you who allowed racism and hate to rise to a crescendo in our discourse.  It is you who allowed our trust in cornerstone institutions and the rule of law to be questioned.  It is you who allowed our once leadership role on the world stage to reduced to a laughing stock.  It is you who allowed the prestige and power of the office of the president to be diminished.  It is you who gave credence to “alternative facts” and it is you who found credible the claim: “The truth isn’t the truth.”

Contrary to the president’s claims, the state of our union is not strong.  The divisiveness that this president has wrought upon our country has weakened us both at home and abroad.  You the Trump voter don’t see the obvious because you have bought into the con.

Trump nd his Republican Party have had two years of controlling the presidency and both houses of congress.  Yet he and his colleagues have failed to keep most of the things he promised you.

Trump promised you a tax cut.  Unless you are among the richest of the rich you haven’t seen a dime.

Trump promised that cutting taxes for the rich would spur economic growth and prosperity.  The economy is strong but 84% of the commercial enterprises say the tax cuts had no impact on their investment plans.

Trump promised to repeal Obamacare and replace it with quality health care at a much lower cost.  That hasn’t happened.

Trump promise to lower the cost of pharmaceuticals.  That hasn’t happened.

Trump promised to build state of the art infrastructure.  That hasn’t happened.

Trump promised to end the trade deficits.  That hasn’t happened.  His tariffs have closed markets for American farmers and manufactures and raised the cost of foreign made goods for the American consumer.

Trump promised immigration reform.  That hasn’t happened.

Trump promise he’d build a wall along our southern border and that Mexico would foot the bill. The wall has not been built and Trump shut down the government because congress would not allow him to use your tax dollars to fund his wall.

Trump promised to drain the swamp of the corruption and self dealing that has ensnared Washington for decades.  Instead he brought you the most corrupt administration in the history of the republic filled with graft, greed and grifters.

Trump promised to return America to a position of strength and respect on the world stage. Trump’s erratic foreign policy and criticism of our closest allies has diminished America’s once lofty position of respect around the globe.

You will be pleased to know that unlike most of the pundits I don’t blame Trump for the chaos, division and corruption that has overwhelmed our government.  I blame you, the voters who elected Trump to power.

Trump’s narcissism, amorality, ignorance, greed and buffoonery were on display for the world to see from the moment he came down that Trump Tower elevator and declared his candidacy. But you the Trump voter dismissed his obvious disqualifying limitations and anointed him king.  Then, in the face of all of his ineptitude and destructive impulses, you continued to blindly support his incompetence; even to the detriment of the country you claim to love.

The state of our union is not strong and it is you the Trump voter who are responsible.

Signed,

Clear Eyed Concerned American
