Republicans have a decision to make. Do they want to be the party of Ronald Reagan? Or do they want to be the party of Laura Ingraham and Donald Trump?
Earlier this week, conservative Fox News host Laura Ingraham said this:
“In some parts of the country, it does seem like the America we know and love doesn’t exist anymore. Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people. And they’re changes none of us voted for, and most of us don’t like. From Virginia to California we see stark examples of how radically in some ways the country has changed. Now, much of this is related to both illegal and in some cases legal immigration.”
On January 11, 2018, President Donald Trump said this:
“Why do we want all these people from shithole countries coming here? Why do we want people from Haiti and more Africans here. We should get more people from Norway. Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out!”
Ingram and Trump’s comments stand in stark contrast to the words of the conservative icon, Ronald Reagan:
“America represents something universal in the human spirit. I received a letter not long ago from a man who said, “You can go to Japan to live, but you cannot become Japanese. You can go to France to live and not become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany or Turkey, but you won’t become a German or a Turk.” But then he added, “Anybody from any corner of the world can come to America to live and become an American.”
Republicans have a decision to make.
Do they want to be the party of Ronald Reagan?
Or do they want to be the party of Laura Ingraham and Donald Trump?
