PLAYING TEE BALL

Since the primary season kicked off in Iowa, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have been beating the hell out of each other while virtually ignoring frontrunner Donald Trump.

It’s if they are playing for second place.

Want proof?  Follow the money.

Of the $215 million spent on campaign ads thus far…only $4 million has been spent on ads attacking Trump.

As I understand it the crux of this strategy is to eliminate the competition so the last guy standing can go one on one with Trump.

Ok!  So how is that working for you?

Thanks in no small measure to the genius of this strategy, Trump has won three of the four primaries/caucuses with a strong second place showing in Iowa.

Then in what can only be viewed as a scene devoid of reality; we watch Cruz and Rubio extol the virtues of NOT winning to a national audience.

“There are no losers here.  Everybody is a winner.  Here are your “Participant” trophies.”

What is this?  Tee ball?

This bizarre scene was most recently on display in Nevada.

Trump won by 20 points…earning more votes than Cruz and Rubio COMBINED.  Yet there the losers were in the aftermath, happy as kids with a new toy.  “Thank God for the great state of Nevada!”  Exclaimed a beaming Ted Cruz.

Nothing says winning like… NOT WINNING?

As if this isn’t weird enough…there appears to be a strange subplot playing out in the background.

Pundits have noticed that while Trump has been going off non-stop against Cruz he has left Rubio untouched.  The conspiracy theory is that Trump and Rubio have secretly agreed to join forces to win the White House.  Trump as President with Rubio in the VP slot.

Really?  Where are Mulder and Scully?

I don’t know what is going on with the Republican candidates but it is all going to come to any abrupt end very soon.  Super Tuesday is right around the corner.  The delegate cache for the taking is “Huuuuuuuuuuge!”  As it stands right now Trump the likely winner in 10 of the 11 contests.

The GOP candidates return to the debate stage tonight.  I’ll be watching to see if Cruz and Rubio are still engaged in their second place strategy.  If they are then Donald Trump will certainly win the debate and carry Super Tuesday.

If that scenario should play out; then you can prepare the last of the “Participant” trophies.

This campaign will be over.
