President Donald Trump is the target of a FBI counterintelligence investigation!
Take a moment to let that sink in.
The president’s unusually deferential treatment of all things Russia raised alarm bells at the highest levels of the FBI. So concerned that the president was acting at the behest of the Russian government, FBI officials took the extraordinary step of initiating a counterintelligence investigation into the president’s actions.
As expected, the president’s supporters responded with hair-on-fire indignation that the FBI would dare to take such an extraordinary action. It is interesting that nowhere in their furious response could I find a full throated assertion in defense of the president. Trump supporters took aim at the FBI, the media, the deep state, Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton and a host of other irrelevant targets. Deflection at its best. Curiously missing, a simple statement: “The president didn’t do it.”
Not even the president could bring himself to give the obvious response to the accusation. When asked by Fox News’ anchor Jeanine Shapiro if he had ever worked for the Russians, the president went on a lengthy disjointed dissertation of everything from James Comey to Hillary Clinton. Notably absent…a simple “No!”
To those who question the FBI’s decision to launch such a historic investigation…who find no fault in the president’s deference to Putin…answer me this:
Of all the available political operatives, why did the president hire Paul Manafort to run his campaign? A man with decades of business dealings with the Russians.
Why did the president publicly call on the Russians to find Hillary Clinton’s missing emails?
Why did the president tell Lester Holt that he fired James Comey to put an end to the Russia investigation?
Why did the president tell senior Russian officials Lavrov and Kislyak that he fired Comey to remove the pressure of the Russia investigation?
Why did the president dictate a false memo about the Trump Tower meeting between Donald Jr. and the Russian lawyer?
Why did Trump lie about his ongoing negotiations with the Kremlin about the construction of a Trump Tower in Moscow?
Why did the president side with Putin over his own intelligence officials in that famous Helsinki news conference?
Why did the president meet for two hours with Putin in Helsinki without any other American officials in the room?
Why hasn’t the president briefed anyone on the details of that meeting?
Why did the president take the interpreters notes from the Helsinki meeting and order the interpreter not tell anyone of the details of the conversation?
Why is the president publicly repeating Russian propaganda about Afghanistan, Crimea and Montenegro?
Why did the president order US troops out of Syria with the explanation that it would encourage Russia to take a more active roll in the region. A pro-Russia position at odds with current US foreign policy.
I believe it is reasonable to assume that if Barak Obama had engaged in such behavior, those who defend Trump’s actions would be lighting their hair on fire.
Is the sitting President of the United States a Russian asset? TBD!
One thing is certain.
