The sentencing of Donald Trump’s long time attorney and fixer marks an important inflection point in the history of our country.
In sentencing Cohen to 3 years for a litany of federal crimes, US District Court Judge William H. Pauley found as credible the prosecution’s assertion that Cohen, at the direction of Individual 1 (Donald Trump), engaged in a criminal conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws by paying hush money to silence women with whom Trump had extra-marital affairs, for the purpose of influencing the 2016 general election. Each act constituting a felony under the federal criminal code.
In summary…the President of the United States has been named in federal court as an unindicted co-conspirator in the commission of two federal felonies. Were he not the sitting president Trump would be a facing criminal indictment on both counts.
This is not the “Fake News” media making wildly unfair accusations of criminal wrongdoing. This is not a left wing conspiracy hatched by partisan Democrats nor is it the uncorroborated musings of left wing cable news networks. This is the official finding of a federal judge in a court of law based on the corroborating evidence provide by multiple witnesses.
As I write this the Southeastern District of New York, and the New York Attorney General are conducting a host of criminal investigations focused on persons and entities tied to the president. The president’s campaign, his fund raising PAC, his inauguration committee, his business, his foundation and his children are all facing criminal charges. All of which are separate from the ongoing Mueller investigation into possible collusion with the Russian government.
One cannot help but feel that this recent court finding will not be the last.
The walls are closing in on this president.
